It Started as a Small Group….

The History of Vineyard Christian Church

The year 2000 plus
Pastor Linda Reiter was clearly prompted by the Spirit of God as the Lord spoke into her heart to ‘plant a Vineyard Church on the east side’  in 2000.  She took steps of faith and graduated from Vineyard Leadership Institute in 2003.   She went through the church planting application process and was blessed by Rich Nathan and Vineyard area pastoral leadership to plant a church on the east side in 2005.  Pastor Linda shared with the small group that she and her husband Richard were leading and they agreed to come alongside her in taking this step of faith.  This group became the founding members of Vineyard Church of Reynoldsburg.

January 2005:
We had interest meetings at Vineyard Columbus with plans to launch Easter of 2005.  At that point, we did not know where we were going to meet.  We did not have a worship leader or team of any sort.  We were a group of 12 who had been meeting as a small group through Vineyard Columbus.  We agreed to respond to the call to ‘plant a Vineyard Church on the Eastside’.   A remark that was said at someone who stopped by the room of the interest meeting, “It will never happen by Easter.”   The Lord proved them wrong.  We took the promise of the Lord from Matt. 19:26,  ‘Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

March 26, 2005:
We found that with God all things are possible.  Vineyard Church of Reynoldsburg was launched at Hillview Baptist Church for our Easter service.  A worship team was provided, a building provided, equipment provided, people provided and so much more!  God saw to it that a Vineyard Church was launched on the east side.  We began monthly services on Saturday nights at 6:00 pm.

Summer of 2005:
Doors opened for us at the First Presbyterian Church at 1416 Jackson Street in Reynoldsburg.  We started weekly services with a focus on reaching out into the community to show the love of Jesus.  We began to be known as the church that gives things away!

Easter of 2010:
We launched Sunday services to Cotner’s Funeral Home on Main Street in Reynoldsburg.  The Lord made it clear that we were to move the location on ‘cast our net on the other side of the boat’.  (John 21:6).  We were obedient to His lead.  The Lord displayed His glory and lives continued to be changed.

January 2012:
We were seeking direction as to where the Lord would have us meet.  A location was being considered.  As our pastor, Linda Reiter, was standing in this potential location in the parking lot seeking the Lord’s direction, she clearly sensed the Spirit speak into her heart, “Get the church ready.  I’m moving you out!”   It was not confirmed that this was going to be the location but we needed to start to get ready to move out!

February 2012:
A call was received on February 3rd from Liz Wolfe who was a head elder from East Columbus Christian Church at 1055 McNaughten Road.  The church leadership knew we were meeting in a funeral home and they were in need of a pastor.  She asked if we would consider talking about merging together.   Leadership met from both churches.  Much prayer along with many meetings took place to seek God’s direction.   Many amazing, Spirit led stories took place.

Easter 2012:
A joint service was held with Vineyard Church of Reynoldsburg and East Columbus Christian Church at 1055 McNaughten Road.  God miraculously worked in our midst and brought together unity among us.

May 2012, Pentecost Sunday:
Both churches agreed to launch a time of engagement over the summer and worship together each week.  God continued to knit hearts together and bring in new people who were hungry for God.

September 2012
We legally merged as one church and took on a new name of Vineyard Christian Church.  God continued to do an incredible work of transformation in people’s hearts knitting together people from both churches along with the new people God was brought in.  We joined together on the mission to make disciples and follow the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20,  “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Vineyard Christian Church today continues to take steps of faith to see people saved, healed, set free, discipled, equipped, empowered and serving.  We are continuing to seek Him first.  We desire to honor and glorify Him welcoming His transforming presence through His Holy Spirit.  We are thankful for the evidence of His work in changing people from the inside out spiritually, physically and emotionally.   We are getting ready to launch LIVE STREAMING as a step of faith once again to reach people outside of our walls.  We want to make a difference in this world for His purposes.  We pray for more people to experience His life transformation.
